The Untouchable Earl by Amy Sandas

"Are you afraid?" "Yes," she replied in a soft voice. "But I love the way you frighten me."

Lily Chadwick has spent her life playing by society's rules. But when an unscrupulous moneylender snatches her off the street and puts her up for auction at a pleasure house, she finds herself in the possession of a man who makes her breathless with terror and impossible yearning...

Though the reclusive Earl of Harte claimed Lily with the highest bid, he hides a painful secret-one that has kept him from knowing the pleasure of a lover's touch. Even the barest brush of skin brings him physical pain, and he's spent his life keeping the world at arms' length. But there's something about Lily that maddens him, bewitches him, compels him...and drives him toward the one woman brave and kind enough to seek to heal his troubled heart.

My Thoughts: Well, well, well. I'll admit that I was immediately drawn to this story as soon as I read the blurb. I'm a sucker for those mysterious, reclusive heroes. You know, the ones who you are just itching to peel back the layers of and find out who they really are. This book IMO was wonderfully executed. Literally from page one the author had you wanting to know more about the hero, the Earl of Harte. What happened to him? Why can he not bear to be touched?  She also gave you insight to his desperation and need hidden behind this facade of steel. Which, mind you, I thought only added to his appeal.

The heroine, Lily, is immediately attracted to Harte from the moment she sees him--heck, so was I, lol. I mean, who can blame her? The man pretty much oozed with masculinity, power, mystery and of course he's gorgeous. But what the heroine doesn't know--and honestly I didn't even realize right away-- is that the hero was just as drawn to her. Not that he gives her any inclination of this of course ;)

The plot thickens and you find out that the heroine's deceased father's debts have now fallen on her and her sisters. Soon enough, she finds herself kidnapped and her innocence up for auction at a one of London's brothels. Well guess who happens to be there that night? That's right ((heart aflutter)) the Earl of Harte. He of course places the highest bid.

So now he has Lily all to himself, just as she has him. The emotional and sexual tension was, Then top it off with the fact that you have these two people who are so drawn to each other but he is unable to bear the slightest touch. Talk about angst.

This story IMO was very well done from start to finish. The characters were so well developed. I was hooked from page one. This is a new to me author but you can bet  I'll be reading more of her books.
